DID YOU KNOW?

  • Babies and toddlers can drown in less than 2 inches of water.

  • Drowning can happen in as little as 20 seconds.

  • The most common statement from parents after a drowning is, “I was only gone for a moment.”

HOW TO MAKE BATH TIME SAFE

  • Get all bath items together before putting your child in the tub.

  • PUT YOUR PHONE DOWN! Actively supervise your child while they are in the tub.

  • Take your child with you if you must leave the bathroom for any reason.

  • Do not leave another child to supervise your infant/toddler in the tub. They cannot recognize the signs of distress in their sibling.

  • Apply a non-slip mat or decals to the bottom of the tub.

  • Drain water IMMEDIATELY after bath.

  • Tub seats are not recommended. Hands on your child is the safest.

  • Remove all electrical appliances during bath time.

  • Bath water should be around 100ºF.

  • Set your hot water heater temperature to 120ºF maximum.

OTHER HOME SAFETY TIPS

  • Keep toilet lids down and bathroom doors closed. Toddlers are top-heavy. If they lean over and fall into the toilet, they do not have the core strength to right themselves and cannot get their face out of the water.

  • Empty buckets and store them upside down.

  • Drain kiddy pools daily. Leaving the water in or even covering the top creates a life-threatening risk for drowning.
