The victim’s head is usually tilted back, their mouth level with the surface of the water.
A drowning person pushes their arms down under water to try to push their head up for air. They cannot wave their arms in the air to signal for help.
Drowning is silent. A person drowning is using all of their energy to try to breath and is therefore unable to audibly yell for help.
Dry Drowning
Even when you know the signs of drowning and successfully rescue someone struggling, seek medical attention for the victim. Know the signs of dry drowning which can turn fatal.
